Starlink is a satellite-based internet provider that is offering internet services in over 60 countries worldwide. The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunication Division of Bangladesh is completing all formalities to allow STARLINK to operate in Bangladesh. The State Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Junayed Hossain Palak, has expressed his positive views on this matter.
The introduction of Starlink in Bangladesh will enable people to use the fastest internet connection from any corner of the country. This will significantly contribute to the vision of a “Smart Bangladesh.” Additionally, it will foster fair competition among all broadband internet providers in the country, leading to better services and fair pricing.
The pricing of Starlink has not yet been confirmed. However, according to the regular price, the initial setup, including all equipment, will cost around 599 USD or about 65,000 BDT. The monthly fee will be approximately 120 USD or about 13,000 BDT. The setup will include a Starlink transceiver, router, base, and cables.
In June 2023, a few government officials met with Starlink representatives who presented their features at the meeting, showing Starlink’s interest in providing service in Bangladesh.
All official formalities are ongoing. The main complexity in allowing the company to operate is related to a few laws, and government officials are working on resolving these issues. Indeed, the introduction of Starlink in the telecommunications sector of Bangladesh will mark the beginning of a new era in technology and modernization, which will fuel the formation of a “Smart Bangladesh” in the near future.
