In a continued trend of decreasing gold prices, the Bangladesh Jewelers Association (BAJUS) has announced another reduction in the rates for various carats of gold. The price changed on Thursday afternoon. It fell by BDT 630 to BDT 113,561 for one bhori (11.664 grams) of 22-carat gold.
The latest change follows earlier cuts this week. Prices were lowered by BDT 2,999 on Wednesday and BDT 3,138 on Tuesday. Over the last three days, the price for a short of the finest gold has dropped by BDT 5,867.
The price cuts were started because the price of acid-tested (Tejabi) gold fell in the local market. This fall prompted BAJUS to re-evaluate and adjust its gold pricing. The price adjustments were decided during Thursday’s BAJUS Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring meeting.
Also, 21-carat gold rates fell by BDT 595 to BDT 108,405 per bhori, and 18-carat gold fell by BDT 514 to BDT 92,915. Traditional method gold also decreased by BDT 408, bringing its price down to BDT 74,801 per bhori.
Despite these price adjustments, gold jewelry buyers will face higher costs than the base price of gold. This is due to an added VAT of 5% and a minimum craftsmanship fee of BDT 3,499 per bhori, which will be in effect from Friday.
While gold prices are experiencing notable declines, silver prices have remained steady. The current prices per bhori are set at BDT 2,100 for 22-carat, BDT 2,006 for 21-carat, BDT 1,715 for 18-carat, and BDT 1,283 for traditionally processed silver.
This price pattern reflects a broader trend in the global market. The dollar’s dynamics influence local commodities, including precious metals. Despite these price drops, the market remains vigilant, with potential buyers closely monitoring further fluctuations as the economic scenario unfolds.
